Naturopathic physicians always seek to find the root cause of a person’s concerns. In many cases this turns out to be an emotional event or state that never completely resolved.
There is now a new tool with which to rapidly treat these emotional states. It is a method called the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), developed by engineer Gary Craig as a simplification of other energy psychology therapies. It is easy to learn and can be used on an ongoing basis to deal with various stresses, aches and pains.
EFT combines counseling and the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. This very simple technique is spreading rapidly around the world as people discover its benefits. Dramatic results are often seen such as in this video on the treatment of PTSD in US war vets.
The core principle of EFT is that all negative emotions are a disturbance of the body’s energy systems.
“The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption
in the body’s energy system”
The energy system refers to the channels or meridians of energy (or qi) of Chinese medicine used in acupuncture. Instead of needles, the significant points are tapped on with the fingers inputting kinetic energy while the person focuses on the problem emotion, pain or feeling.
Tapping balances the disturbed energy patterns and brings lasting relief. This breaks the connection between the thought and the feeling so that a disturbing thought no longer elicits an emotional response. For example, the memory of a car accident no longer brings feelings of fear and panic. This can be especially helpful in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder. This chart explains How EFT Works.
EFT works quickly in the office and can bring permanent relief from troubling emotions. Dr. Potter is also able to offer EFT appointments by phone or by Skype. Once learned, it is a tool people can use themselves to meet daily challenges.
EFT has proven to be helpful for so many conditions, as Gary Craig says, why not "try it on everything"?
“Health is the freedom to be in the moment
and fulfill the purpose of life”
